Welcome to Miners Rest Primary School & Kindergarten. (K-6)

I acknowledge the First People of the Wathaurong who are the traditional custodians of the land and waters on which I work and live, and pay my respects to the Elders of the past, present and emerging.

Thank you for visiting our School/Kindergarten website, designed to introduce you to our K-6 setting and assist you in becoming familiar with us.
Our staff, parents and community extend a warm welcome to you and your family and trust that you will experience a positive educational association with our school.
Miners Rest Primary School is a medium sized school with 347 students, along with our Kindergarten which hosts 100, 3 & 4yr old students. Student numbers are steadily growing with the increasing development in our area. The school is located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Ballarat. The Primary School site itself was established 1858 and the Kindergarten formed in 2015. We are extremely proud of our Kindergarten supporting young families and allowing for a seamless student transition into the school environment with its adjacent location.
We proudly offer an engaging and supportive Out of School Hours Program to support families with before and after school care, as well as providing a dynamic holiday program during each holiday period throughout the year. We offer a point of connection for young families within our community by hosting Playgroup onsite every Friday morning.
The school and community have a rich and proud history, providing opportunities for community engagement within our inclusive and stimulating learning environments. Our specialised subjects include Physical Education, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and STEM, as well as a schoolwide focus on Indigenous Culture K-6. Our curriculum provides rich and diverse learning opportunities to maximise the literate and numerate potential of all students. The curriculum is aligned to the Victorian Curriculum and delivered via an agreed pedagogical understanding that reflects current best practices and follows the Miners Rest Primary School Instructional Model.
Daily literacy & numeracy sessions are the foundation on which we build the necessary skills for our ever-changing world along with a focus on Humanities encompassing skills in the areas of Science, Civics & Citizenship, Geography and History. A highlight across our Kindergarten and School setting is the extensive excursion/incursion program, offering many cultural and personal growth opportunities to the students.
Our school highly values the educational partnerships with students, staff, parents & the broader school community. Our great strength is to provide an individualised and wholistic education focused on the learning needs of each student.
We are extremely proud of our modern facilities & technologically inspired classrooms. Students enjoy great exposure to iPads and laptops with each classroom containing an Apple TV. Our Year 3-6 students have a 1:1 iPad program which is aimed at complimenting and richly enhancing their learning.
Diversity in our programming is guaranteed also with a beautiful school Library, Swim Program, Gymnastics Program, Camps Program, senior school sport and a range of events throughout the year that involve our school community. Students also belong to a Sporting House, provided to students upon enrolment to enhance welfare and sporting interest.
Students are allocated buddies to assist in transition periods and work extensively together on a regular basis in a variety of forums. We operate Foundation, Year 1&2, Year 3&4 and Year 5&6 structured classes.
Parent involvement is paramount to the success and operations of the school, with an active School Council, Parents & Friends Association and Junior School Council often the catalyst behind many of our extra-curricular activities.
I trust you’ll find the website informative. You are very welcome to contact the school with any additional inquiries.
